Tolomeo

Designed by Michele De Lucchi with Giancarlo Fassina in 1987, the Tolomeo lamp immediately became an icon of Italian design and in 1989 it won the Compasso d’Oro. Inspired by classic spring lamps, it combines a traditional and timeless shape with innovative technologies and materials.
Elegant, versatile and suitable for the tastes of any environment, according to its creator, the Tolomeo lamp was so successful because it was a project that knew how to add a grain of freedom to people’s lives. The mechanics were born from the observation of the mechanical principle of a fishing rod and its line with movable arms combined with an adjustable lighting system, based on a cantilevered and balancing spring structure, makes the Tolomeo lamp extremely versatile. Its popularity pushed Giancarlo Fassina and Michele de Lucchi not only to spread it all over the world, but to decline it later in multiple versions including the Tolomeo Mini (1991), the Tolomeo Micro (1999-2000) as well as the model conceived for video terminals, the Tolomeo Video (1991). Improvements were made to these models and they were readjusted for the table, floor, wall and ceiling version. The Tolomeo lamp by Artemide is part of the products displayed in our showroom in Viale Certosa 21 in Milan.
